William Judson Pittsinger, son of Hiram and Julia, was born in 1842 and was baptized on November 19, 1854 in Westhampton. William enlisted in Company I, 31st Massachusetts Infantry on February 4, 1862, and was mustered on February 19, 1862. He is listed as 20 years old and a farmer. He was discharged for disability on June 20, 1862 in New Orleans. He died because of disease in a hospital in New York at the age of 21 on September 9, 1862. His name is on the Civil War monument in Center Cemetery, Westhampton, with five others from Westhampton who “sacrificed their lives in defense of liberty and Union during the Great Rebellion.” He is buried in that cemetery under a government stone with a G. A. R. marker in the northeast corner of the old part of the cemetery.
